Aloud

Aloud Terms of Use

Plain English, not legalese. By downloading or using Aloud you agree to these terms.

1. About

Aloud is operated by Joel Holomek, a sole trader based in Australia. It turns books into audiobooks, generating speech on your device, and offers a catalogue of freely available titles and human-narrated recordings.

2. Eligibility

If you are under 18, you confirm a parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these terms on your behalf. Aloud does not require an account and does not collect personal information.

3. Purchases

Any purchase is handled by the Apple App Store; we never see your payment details. The price and terms shown on the purchase screen in the app at the time of purchase apply, and prevail over any figure listed elsewhere, including this website.

Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. Nothing here limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

4. The catalogue

Aloud’s free catalogue is drawn from public sources that provide works in the public domain and freely licensed human recordings. Availability, accuracy, cataloguing, and licence terms of that material are determined by those sources, not by us. We do not claim ownership of those works.

5. Books you import

Books you add yourself remain yours. You are responsible for having the right to use any file you import. Do not import material you are not permitted to use.

6. Generated audio

Audio generated by Aloud is for your personal use. Redistributing generated audio may be restricted by the rights attaching to the underlying work and by the terms of the voices used — you are responsible for ensuring any further use is lawful.

7. Acceptable use

  • Don’t reverse engineer, decompile, or extract the app’s source code or voice models
  • Don’t use the app for any unlawful purpose
  • Don’t attempt to extract or redistribute the bundled voices

8. Content and licences

The app, its design, and its voices are owned by us or our licensors. You receive a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app; you do not acquire ownership.

9. Availability

We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of Aloud at any time. Catalogue availability depends on third-party sources and may change without notice.

10. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law Aloud is provided “as is” and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here excludes any guarantee or remedy under the Australian Consumer Law or other laws that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where liability can be limited, it is limited to resupply or the cost of resupply.

11. Governing law

Governed by the laws of Australia, with disputes subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Australian courts.
